DOUGLAS C. GRANUM

Douglas Charles Granum was born August 16th, 1939, in the lignite coal-mining town of Beaula, North Dakota. He grew to adulthood in Southworth, Washington and is a graduate of the University of Washington, Bachelor of Arts, 1970..
His most important education is as a student of the world. Mr. Granum travels this world extensively deriving inspiration from such disparate places as the jungles of New Guinea to doing plein aire painting in the northern Urals of Russia.
Mr. Granum has works in collections around the world. Mr. Granum works in cast and fabricated bronze, stone, glass and steel. He is also an avid painter, writer and traveler. Doug’s fountains in bronze and stone add music to gardens everywhere. Doug’s gracious gates provide beauty and security as sculpture. His “2169 Suite”, a 100,000 pound work, predicts the solar eclipse in the year 2169. His workings with the universe reveal the equinox and solstices, birthdays and important dates in new yet ancient ways. There is a striking relationship that his work forges with the natural environment. He has the ability to imbue steel with life, make stones talk. Douglas Granum has paintings in numerous collections and his writings are revered. His work projects both human characteristics and yet hews a relationship with both cityscapes and natures elements. Recognizing the works as the culmination of human effort, you realize that maybe mankind is not so at odds with the universe after all….. |
